Forest Water Resource Monitoring & Water Map Production

Nationwide Forest Water Resource Monitoring and Water Map Production

To build a sustainable water-cycle system, we monitor the runoff characteristics of forest watersheds and carry out forest water-map production and the development of water-source recharge forest-management techniques.

Overview

This is a forest water-management technology development project for building a sustainable water-cycle system. We characterize the runoff of forest watersheds by forest type and site, and develop forest-management techniques to enhance water-source recharge.

We established standard production guidelines and conducted pilot production for building forest water maps, and we are responsible for producing precise forest site & soil maps and for water-cycle monitoring and data collection at forest water-resource watershed test sites such as Sancheong, Jeonnam, Andong, and Jinju.

Process

  1. Selection of watershed test sitesWe select monitoring watersheds reflecting forest-type and site characteristics.
  2. Hydrological monitoringWe observe and collect forest-watershed hydrological data such as runoff and water quality.
  3. Soil & site surveyWe conduct precise forest site & soil surveys of the watershed test sites.
  4. Water map productionWe produce forest water maps according to the standard production guidelines.
  5. Management technique proposalsWe derive and propose forest-management techniques to enhance water-source recharge.
